S'mores

Around the campfire at the cabin this weekend we made s'mores.

This was actually a "jumbo" marshmallow.  (shawn only knows how to take blurry photos)

oooey-gooey

sticky-licky

Yum-a-licious s'mores.

Day-Care Program

It was standing room only at the day care center for last evening's performance.

The kids sang songs and a couple of them "graduated" from pre-school to go on to start Kindergarten in the fall.

Then afterwards we had snacks.  Here's Tyler and his best friend Wyatt, enjoying the treats.

Taking it Easy

The weather was great, and there were no other places we needed to be, so we lit our burn pile and roasted hot dogs.
How great to own property where you drive through a gate and feel like you are on vacation.

I feel good enough to get exercise!

After about two weeks of having a sinus infection that has knocked me out, I am finally feeling a little better.  So good, that we went outside after dinner and looked at the wildflowers.

It still looks drab out, but take my word for it, things are getting green!

Ding Dong the Rooster's Dead

I've concluded that anyone who owns, or has owned a rooster has a "terrifying rooster" story.
Now we have one too.  Tyler was outside minding his own business this weekend and Shawn turned around and saw the Rooster take him down.  He pushed him down to the ground and was on his back!!  I am glad I didn't see it, because I would have been so upset/scared/angry/worried. Our rooster is (was) very regal, with 3" spurs and is (was) a breed with double toes.  He never caused any problems before, but in this case you don't get three strikes!
Next thing I know, Shawn brings Tyler in the house (snot and tears and all) and grabs a shot gun.
We went to the window to see what would happen.  It was kind of comedic, watching Shawn march around with a gun trying to chase a rooster down.  In the end we didn't see it, they were behind the barn.
So....with that, no more rooster, and we can all sleep in a little later than 4:30am.

Late-Afternoon Leech Adventure

Shawn said the price of leeches is just too high these days, so he started to read up on how to catch them.  Apparently, walleye love leeches.
So yesterday after work he got his leech trap ready (a tin can with holes in it and meat inside) and we headed out to a pond to try it out.

It seems spring has finally come, and the day was a beautiful one.

Tyler had no idea what a leech was.  I tried explaining that they are like worms.  He has told me in the past that he doesn't like worms.

The pond is a pretty one, until you get up close and look at the murky, shrimpy, leech-water.  We kept screeching for Decker to stay out of the muck; we didn't want to deal with the consequences.
Shawn put the contraption in the water and we took off down the road.
It was a gorgeous day, and the grass is beginning to green up.  The snow in the mountains is going to be there for a while!

This morning we got up a little early and left the house to check on the trap.  Shawn said he was surprised he slept well--he was anticipating this moment so much.  He did stay up late and read how to feed and keep the leeches alive.  I wondered aloud why he couldn't have developed an interest in kittens or other more pleasant creatures.

Here is the bucket.  A few came out of the holes and into the white bucket.  Once he took the lid off though, we saw nearly 100 black, squirming, leeches.  I will spare viewers the gag-inducing photo I took of them.  Just know that they were gross.

At precisely the moment the lid came off the tin can, Tyler realized that he was also not fond of leeches.

So Far in the Garden...

These are my seed starts in comunity garden greenhouse.  They are loving the sunshine and companionship with other plant friends.

Other people have harvestable spinach and lettuce....but they aren't picking it!  I wonder if they would notice a few leaves missing?

Ups and Downs

This was Saturday morning at our house.  From (semi) green to white overnight.

It's melting down slowly.  Luckily we had some friends visit.  Tyler met a new playmate, Greta.  They had a great time!

Afterwards he was so tired he slept through dinner.  And got up just in time for bed!
