Family vs. Rain

In the end, the rain won.
We arrived to our campsite on Friday night, and the sky was just cloudy, with a touch of dampness in it.  The kids scurried around playing squirrel games, and picked berries for a "pizza" while the adults set up camp.

This time, I had planned things out much better for the weekend.
There were snacks, and lunches, and breakfast, and even a little craft with mini-pumpkins.

And glow-in-the-dark bracelets that cleverly looked like smiley-faces when you put them on the ground.

Then we went to bed as the first drops started falling.  It rained ALL NIGHT.
The next morning, it was socked in and continued to rain.  The kids were not bothered by it, there were just puddles to jump in and a little inconvenience of wet and cold hands.

So we went back to our friends' house, which was 25 minutes away, and tried to wait out the storm.  We dried clothes, washed dishes, ate tasty food, and also planned on going to the Oktoberfest at the brewery for dinner and games and beer.

Then we went to the brewery, and the sign on the door said "Oktoberfest postponed until tomorrow."
So we went for pizza, met up with other friends, and drank local beer.  Then we drove back to the campground, packed up wet and soggy campthings, and stayed in a hotel.
It all worked out, but wowza, was it wet.
We came back to Lovell to find an inch of rain in the gauge.  An INCH!  It was wet, and still is really squishy out there.  Next time we'll stick to the desert if rain is predicted, although the weekend was great practice in patience, flexibility, and relaxing in bad conditions.
