How it's done around here...

I've probably talked about it before, but in this town the kids (school age or younger) walk around in the afternoon trick or treating at local businesses.
It was SOOOOO windy, but these guys kept truckin' on.  This is one of the parents,  helping pull the kids along.

Here they go into the new coffeeshop to get some goodies!

Finally we made it back to daycare and the car.  The kids were pooped.

 And they had runny noses...

In the car on the way home I didn't think Tyler would stay awake.  But I guess the sugary sucker helped with that.

Then during supper he really wiped out.  He actually ate the stuffed zucchini I made with his eyes closed.  Phew, another Halloween down with many more to go!

Spooky

On his way out the door to daycare.

Getting Firewood

The weather has been so unpredictable lately.  We have been taking what the weather forecasts say, subtracting 10 degrees, and then adding in wind and rain and that seems to give us an accurate prediction.  On Sunday, it was cold and rainy at our house, and 10 miles away sunny and breezy.  We got another load of firewood because we all wanted to be outside and there is no such thing as "too much wood."

Tyler and I took a walk while Shawn cut down some trees.  It was a very pretty day.

There is no lack of dead trees.

I was able to play the "pregnancy card" and not help a whole lot.  I went for a little walk on my own, and came back to see the little munchkin picking up logs and handing them to dad.  It was very cute to see him huffing and puffing and running around looking for small chunks to pick up.

It is a good sign that he wants to help---because I am guessing he has a life of "firewood-gettin'" in front of him.

Blurry Halloween Fun

I still haven't learned how to take decent pictures inside school gyms.
Last night was the Halloween festival at the school, and Tyler put on his lion costume (complete with cowboy boots) to go down and play games and see friends.

He won a bunch of spider toys and candy, and overall became super wired on the sugary cupcakes and goodies.  It was fun, and another reason I am glad to have a kid as an excuse to get out of the house and do this kind of thing.  Even Shawn enjoyed it because he was able to talk with the other dads about their luck on the opening day of hunting season.

Fall Days

Clean-up time around the house.  The greenhouse has been dug up and we’ll use it for storage.

The horses are putting on winter weight.  (ok, maybe they’re just overfed and don’t get a lot of exercise lately)

HUGE

We dug up the last of the carrots, and found some whoppers.  Although maybe they don't look so big when I hold them....

But trust me, they are the biggest we've ever harvested!  16 canned jars and 8 frozen packages later, and we have enough carrots to last for quite a while.

Fun with Straw

This weekend, while in Belgrade/Bozeman, we went to a Strawbale Maze.  Wow was it fun! Really!
Tyler, cousin Matthew, and friend Paige had a blast, even though it was 88 degrees and like a dry tinderbox walking between the bales.
Tyler is in a phase where he has major preferences in clothes--out of all the "cool kid" outfits he has, he demands to wear the Cars t-shirt and dorky green shorts.
We had to find clues, and fill out cards in order to win a candy prize at the end.

Can you believe this was the weather on October 1st, in Montana??  Just gorgeous.  It was a beautiful setting and great idea.

This is my most favorite picture of Tyler.  He was obsessed with riding this train, and kept watching for the conductor and other kids to get on.  He was so hot and sweaty but determined not to miss the ride.
"Can someone tell me what's going on here?"

GULP!  Everyone was soooo thirsty and hot, but refused to leave.  Matthew still had his padded pants on from playing football that morning.
Too fun.  Highly recommended (but maybe on a day with more seasonal temps).
